Lady of the Lace Parasol

This is for my little sister-of-the-heart, Rosey, who celebrated a birthday last month ~  May God fill your whole year with sparkly blessings, dear one

Lady of the Lace Parasol

Strolls beneath sheer gilt sun,

Grace-filled intuitive feet

Choose their own direction…

Solo for now.

Her mind knits thoughts, words

Into yards of fierce poetry;

Romantic heart bastes scalloped

Pastel ribbon edge, faith’s fine-

Detailed florals embroidered.

She wears gifted talent like gown

With royal train, Mona Lisa smile

Instead of painted lips…and loyalty’s rich

Gem, pendant ’round her throat—

For, family and friends are

Strapped sandals she dances in.

After day is said and done—

Battles finessed, victory secured—

She reclines beneath lace parasol;

Sings exquisite songs—twilight hued

Praise for Creator God—and love’s

Effusing February fragrance;

Lights birthday candles for celebration cake…

The one her faraway sister-friend baked a little late.

I’d Recognize You

Your stance, in silhouette

The way you walked

Straight-shouldered gait…

Strong artist’s hands, gestures…

The way stress clenched your jaw…

Your penmanship, bold, confident…

Your voice I LOVED—

Varied intonations

Pauses, timed hesitations…

Each nuance of persona…

Shadow, glimmer of blue gaze…

Every word I memorized

Touch, long-aching fantasized…

Nothing at all did I forget.

And if you returned, mere

Ghost from salt and ashy grave

I would, as always—

Heart quick-beating, breathless

Passion heating faded cheeks

—Recognize you.

Yes, despite dimming vision

Age eroding memories

My once in a lifetime Gone-love…

I’d still recognize you.

Heart Raw Sienna

Raw Sienna, #d27d46

Color Your World – Raw Sienna

I will love you

If only the wind

Hears my whispers,

Rain veiling grief’s annual tears.

I’ll love you when

Stars crash down mutely…

Burn away, making no defense.

As seasons turn calendar pages,

And years stack up like firewood

Gray with January rime…

I will love you still.

I’ve built imagined monuments,

Dressed in blue-green verdigris,

From memories framed with filigree—

And I will hold you near, till

My eyes no longer recognize

Blurred features memorized

In youth, for safekeeping.

I’ll love you though passion

Is forgotten summer

Day’s dandelion fluff…

While deafening hail raps

At sundown’s windowpanes.

Fiercely do I mourn, love you,

This aging heart unexceptional

As clay…time fading

Once-vibrant flesh which

Danced with pulsing color—

Now dusty-dry, raw sienna

Of wild palette you left behind.

Slate Blue Gaze   Please click the link for Rosey and Jade’s feature, and the music prompt:  “Never Seen Anything Quite Like You”.

 Your pensive slate blue gaze

Traveled on forever…

To where, I never knew;

Thoughts moving like

Wide mystic river, or

Ticking time’s ancient clock.

Your posture, relaxed cobra,

Sent vibrations through

Tropical air, sands—

From a distance, I traced

Lines of your cheek bones,

Lips’ perfect curve,

Squared tension in your jaw—

Breathed your voice

Whenever I heard it,

Because my love was a lifetime.

I’ve never seen anything,

Before or since…

Quite like you.
